Refresher: Fall Protection Competent Person

The Refresher: Fall Protection Competent Person will demonstrate skill sets as a Competent Person and be made knowledgeable in the new regulation standards and equipment as a Competent Person. Registrants will be updated on any new teaching techniques and be required to teach a section to maintain trainer status. Students will expand their knowledge and ability to identify hazardous conditions, develop programs and make equipment selections to properly deal with fall hazards. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will receive a certificate acknowledging they have met or exceeded OSHA, ANSI Z359.2 and CSA requirements as a Competent Person.

Course participant will be required to climb the ladder or structure, while demonstrating 100% tie off, as well as a fixed anchor point at least 8 feet above a flat and level surface. The anchor point must be accessible so the instructor can rig a Rescue Positioning Device (RPD). The RPD will be used to suspend course participants in their harnesses. The fixed anchor point must be rated for 5000 lb. Acceptable anchor points include a properly designed scaffold, structural beam at least 6’ in depth. A shop hoist rated for at least 5000 lb. may be acceptable, but the power source must be locked and tagged before use. For other anchor points, it is suggested to consult with Capital Safety prior to the class.

Refresher: Fall Protection Competent Person must be taken within 3 years after completing Competent Person, and the previous course must have been from a 3M Certified Course.

Students will receive a workbook for the class and certification upon completion
